It’s that time of year again – the Bramble Babes are packing up and getting ready for the greatest show on earth, the Festival of Quilts at the NEC! (Well, okay, it’s actually only the biggest patchwork and quilting show in Europe, but for quilters, that’s better than any Barnum and Bailey circus!)
Next week, from Thursday 10 – Sunday 13 August, we will be on our usual stand, N4 in Hall 9, near the VIP area. This year we have some fabulous new products launching, including :
Tiddly Om Pom Pom!
Following on from the success of East Meets West last year, Tiddly Om Pom Pom! is our new offline hand-sewn Block of the Month — join us to hand-stitch a charming quilt top full of all our favourite things from the British seaside!
This super collaboration between Bramble Babes Alicia Armstrong and Tracy Slavin combines English Paper Pieced (EPP) blocks with simple embroidered blocks inspired by traditional redwork. It’s portable and easy to sew, even for relative beginners. Patterns will be posted out each month for 12 months, providing plenty of stitching fun in bite-sized instalments!
To join in, pick up your kit of materials from us at the Festival of Quilts, or from the shop afterwards. But remember, Tiddly Om Pom Pom! kits are limited in number so don’t wait too long!
Lucy Boston patchwork kits
As patchwork specialists and dedicated quilters, we’re thrilled to be partnering with Diana Boston, owner of the Lucy Boston coverlets and author of The Patchworks of Lucy Boston, to create unique quilt kits inspired by Lucy’s beautiful work, including the famous Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC). This collaboration came about as a result of the Bramble Babes’ visit to the Manor at Hemingford Grey, Lucy Boston’s home, in July. (See the latest Bramble Buzz for more on that trip!)
Our first Lucy Boston kit will be a smaller version of the iconic Patchwork of the Crosses. Each kit will include a curated selection of fabrics chosen to evoke the spirit of the original, along with instructions for English Paper Piecing, pre-cut papers and acrylic templates to help with fussy-cutting – this “precision cutting” of fabrics is one element that made Lucy’s work so special.
Our exclusive Patchwork of the Crosses kit will be ready to buy at the Festival of Quilts with new kits based on Lucy’s other patchworks to follow. They will be available from us, and from the gift shop at the Manor at Hemingford Grey in support of the house and gardens that Lucy restored and loved.
We’re very excited about this new collaboration and thrilled to say that Diana herself will be available on our stand on Thursday 10 August to sign copies of her book (which we’ll have available to purchase of course)!
Of course, we’ll have lots of lovely new fabric collections on our stand, along with our ever-popular trays of hundreds of fat quarters and exclusive fat eighth bundles. Plus quilt kits, patterns, demonstrations, the latest Bramble Buzz magazine and Today’s Quilter projects, as well as information about our new sewing machine sales and servicing.
We’ve got so much to show and tell this year and we do hope to see you at the NEC! Say hello when you drop by!
