New in 2017… our first ever Bramble Quilting Retreat!

As you know we like to keep things fresh with new fabrics, new products and new ideas to inspire and delight quilters at all levels, so we’re thrilled to announce our newest venture – Bramble Quilting Retreats!

Join us for the first ever Bramble Quilting Retreat in September 2017

We know that some of our customers live too far from us to come for day classes, and that even those are local often don’t get enough uninterrupted sewing at home – and who doesn’t hate being asked what’s for dinner when you’re deep in the process of matching points or free-motion quilting?

Well, we thought we’d arrange something to help out with that (yes, the Bramble Babes are always thinking of you; we’re good like that!) and Bramble Quilting Retreats are the result – a chance to come and spend some blissfully uninterrupted quilting time at the Bramble Patch in the company of other quilters with all your needs taken care of.

We’re organising everything for you – accommodation, meals and refreshments, evening entertainment and workshop tuition – and of course you’ll be in one of the biggest quilt shops in the country with all the fabric and supplies you might want! Why not take some time for yourself for a change? Or bring a quilting friend for a mini-holiday together?

Oo, exciting! When do we start?

Our very first Bramble Quilting Retreat will be the Rambling Rows Weekend Retreat from 22 – 24 September 2017.

The weekend will be hosted by Bramble Babes Wendy and Claire Le Maistre. (If you haven’t met Wendy and Claire, they’re our tag team mother and daughter Babes; along with their experience of running quilt groups and giving talks, Claire is one of our occasional teachers and Wendy is one of our Friday demonstrators.)

Wendy and Claire have designed a special project for their retreat – Rambling Rows is a brand-new quilt design featuring eight different machine pieced patchwork techniques plus a bonus block for the really keen. They’ll take you step-by-step through each technique and then show you how to put them all together for a gorgeous finished quilt top.

Sounds good – how does it work?

The weekend starts on Friday 22 September, when you arrive at the Bramble Patch around 4.30 pm to unload your sewing machine and supplies. Have a look around the shop, meet Wendy and Claire and get set up in the workroom, then head to the Crossroads Hotel to check in to your room. Everyone will meet for an early evening meal at 6 pm and then make their way back to the Bramble Patch for an entertaining talk from Wendy and Claire on their trip to New England and the quilts it inspired. (They’re very prolific makers – expect lots of quilts!)

After breakfast on Saturday 23 September, head back to the Bramble Patch (walk if you like and weather permits – it’s about 10 minutes through the village) for the day. Wendy and Claire will take you through the Rambling Rows quilt one step at a time, with plenty of help along the wayFree tea and coffee is available while you’re at the shop and our Conservatory Coffee Shop will provide a freshly prepared lunch leaving you free to concentrate on your sewing (and shopping, if you wish!) The workshop continues through the afternoon, with a return to the hotel for your evening meal.

After dinner, Wendy and Claire will be back at the shop for the (entirely optional) bonus block – join them for more patchwork, or just take it easy at the hotel and enjoy not having to do the washing up!

Another breakfast at the hotel on Sunday 24 September will followed by the final sewing session at the shop when Wendy and Claire will show you how to put together your blocks and complete your quilt top. We’ll provide lunch from our Coffee Shop again. After lunch, finish up your sewing, do a bit of shopping, and leave when you’re ready (final departures by 3.30 pm) for your journey home.

    Sounds like a fantastic weekend!
BTW if anyone, including my husband, ever asks me “what’s for dinner”, my response is invariably “whatever you want to cook for me!” Never let anyone come between you and your sewing machine!

Sounds brilliant, but unfortunately I am away during these dates. Hopefully there will be a repeat at some time in the future.

Sounds good, but do you have a picture of what you’ll be working towards on the retreat? Thanks
