Spring snippets

Snippets is a regular post series where we round up lots of little bits and pieces about what’s hot, what’s happening, what’s new and what’s next. This time we catch up after Easter and look forward to the summer.

Easter Exhibitions raise £1,500 for Macmillan

After a cold, wet start due to the wintry weather, our Easter Exhibitions – OrientationCreative ExplorationsRiches of Stitches and Hidden Depths – soon picked up to our usual successful numbers of stitch-loving visitors. The range of styles, techniques and applications was much admired and obviously inspired many viewers as well.

We are once again pleased to report that our generous visitors helped us to raise another £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you to everyone who came!

Project Linus update

Yesterday saw our second Project Linus day of 2013, in which a record-breaking 108 new quilts were either finished or donated. Add those to the 58 already donated at our February Project Linus day, and we’re off to a good start for the year! If you’d like to know what it’s like from the viewpoint of a new volunteer, check out Caz Newton’s blog post. Thanks to Caz and all the other volunteers who take part!

We’ve also heard from our local co-ordinator that, in 2012, the Northamptonshire branch donated a total of 727 quilts – of which 444 were produced at or for Project Linus days at The Bramble Patch! That’s a lot of sick and traumatised children and teenagers who will hopefully find reassurance and rest through the physical comfort of their own hand-made quilts.

Tea Cosy Challenge for 2013

Yes, it’s that time again – this year our annual Strawberries & Cream challenge is to make a tea cosy. You can be as inventive as you like, so let your imagination run free and have fun!

All tea cosies entered will be exhibited during Strawberries & Cream week, 8 – 15 June 2013, and the Viewers’ Choice will receive the Margaret Every Challenge Cup and a Bramble Patch gift voucher for £25. Entry costs £1.50 (proceeds to Macmillan) and includes a pattern. Contact the shop if you’d like more information or to take part.

Summer Showcase and Open Studios

Later this summer, we’ll also be reprising our successful Open Studios and Summer Showcase throughout August.

We are delighted to be showing quilts from three talented makers for our 2013 Summer Showcase: Jan Hassard will be exhibiting her stunning quilts, and will be visiting during the exhibition to talk about her work, and textile artists Stephanie Redfern and Hilary Beattie will be putting together a joint exhibition of their work.

You can also drop by throughout the month to see some of our favourite quilters, textile artists and embroiderers working live at The Bramble Patch, as they transfer their studios to us for a short while and share their experience, ideas and inspiration. Edwina Mackinnon, Catherine Nicholls, Angie Hughes, Linda Maynard, Viv Denscombe, Stephanie Redfern and Hilary Beattie will all be here. Please do check our What’s On page to check dates as we’d hate for you to miss your favourite!

That’s all our snippets for now, but if you want to be kept up to date, you can always sign up to get our news in your email inbox,  like us on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter. Or just pop back here to the website each week – we always have new fabrics added to the shop, and new events on the What’s On page.
