Summer events

As usual, we have plenty to see at The Bramble Patch this summer with exhibitions, events and our open studios season. Here’s a quick reminder of what’s coming up:

Strawberries & Cream Week (7 – 14 June)

It’s our annual celebration of summer this week, and we have a very eclectic exhibition with works from Contemporary Expressions, Danetre Quilters, the Traditional Quilt Group of the Quilters’ Guild, and Daventry & District Embroiderers’ Guild.

We have also have over 30 fabulous entries to our Chelsea Flower Show cushion challenge, so do try to stop by and vote for your favourite! Proceeds to Macmillan Cancer Support as always.

Antique & Vintage Quilt Heritage Day (Saturday 5 July)

We’re looking forward to this one-day event featuring heritage quilts from the collections of Barbara Chainey and Jane Cobbett, with along with other displays and demonstrations of interest to lovers of old quilts. Chat to the experts, learn how to quilt by hand, or bring in your old family quilts for appraisal. There will even be the opportunity to buy some of Barbara’s own vintage quilts if you’re feeling acquisitive!

We’d also love you to add a few stitches to our Bramble Patch heritage quilt; this special quilt has been made in a traditional style, with reproduction-style fabrics and will be hand-quilted as a “work of many hands”. We’ve started the quilting this week, and will continue it throughout events this year. Then later, we’ll raffle the quilt to raise funds for Macmillan and hope that it becomes someone’s future heirloom.

Sit & Sew days

Make use of our space to get your own sewing done at Sit & Sew days
Make use of our space to get your own sewing done at Sit & Sew days

Sit & Sew days are available on selected dates throughout June and July – check our What’s On page for when you can come and make use of our light and spacious workrooms to enjoy a relaxing day stitching with no interruptions and get to grips with your own stitching project.

There’s usually plenty of room to spread out, so it’s a great time to layout or sandwich a quilt top, or get on with finishing up your UFOs. There’s no tutor, so you’ll need to know what you want to do, but of course the shop is open for supplies and advice. Pay on the day (£12.50) – no need to book!

Summer Showcase (1 – 30 August)

We'll have loads of beautiful traditional quilts in our Summer Showcase

This year’s Summer Showcase exhibition will feature some 60 quilts (yes, sixty!) made by members of the Traditional Quilt Group of the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles. Many of these are full-size quilts, so if you admire beautiful bed quilts and traditional designs, this will definitely be a display worth a look!

We’ll also have the smaller pieces of work from two of the group’s themed challenges: “Maritime Moments” and “Suffragettes“.

The Summer Showcase coincides with our Open Studios season…

Once again, we’re inviting some of our tutors and other makers to use wet room, turn it into their own studio for a day or two and share their work, inspiration and ideas with visitors. We have a wide variety of makers this year, including Gillian Travis, Linda Chevin-Hall, Angie Hughes, Lynda Monk, Heidi Street-Ward, Claire Higgott, Stephanie Redfern and Hilary Beattie. Come by to meet them, see their work, view the Summer Showcase and have a cuppa while you’re here in aid of Macmillan.

All dates and details are on the What’s On page.

And of course, we always have a shop full of wonderful fabric, haberdashery and inspiration for quilters of all levels, so do think about dropping by some time – the kettle’s always on and we’d love to see you!
