- All In The Stars - Parkinson's UK Mystery Charity Quilt 2024
As we now enter the 6th year of charity quilt making we have supported many worthy causes - Alzheimer's Society, British Heart Foundation and Blood Cancer UK - and this year we are proud to announce we are supporting another amazing charity Parkinson's UK.
Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition and occurs when someone doesn't have enough of the chemical dopamine in their brain due to some of the nerve cells ceasing to produce it. Around 153,000 people live with Parkinson's in the UK and it's the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. The 3 main symptoms of Parkinson's are a tremor (shaking), slowness of movement and rigidity (muscle stiffness) - everyone's experience is different and not everyone will experiences all of these symptoms.
The Bramble Patch selected this charity to support this year as we have customers, friends and relatives who are living with Parkinson's and therefore wanted to play our part in fundraising. To further endorse the selection of this charity, one of our fabric suppliers - Moda - have released a fabric collection "Collection for a Cause: Etchings by 3 Sisters" to support the Parkinson's Foundation in the USA. The collection revisits the stunning prints from previous 3 Sisters collections and also includes prints with motivational words including compassion, optimism and calm, a quote from Shakespeare on friendship, the signature of the scientist who discovered Parkinson's disease, and finally the inspirational words from the famous actor Michael J. Fox, diagnosed with Parkinson's at the age of 29 - " One's dignity may be assaulted, vandalised, and cruelly mocked but cannot be taken away unless it's surrendered".
We will be designing & creating our blocks each month using this fabric collection and we have a limited number of fabric bundles available to purchase* so you too can create your charity quilt from this gorgeous collection identified to support the cause.
This year's subscription to our "All In The Stars" charity quilt can be made via a one-off minimum donation of £40.00 donation to https://www.justgiving.com/page/bramblepatch-2024mqallinthestarss?utm_term=W4n83WA3X
You will then receive a MONTHLY email (sent on the first Friday of each month) containing the pattern to create a 16" patchwork block. There will be 12 patterns in total and are designed to be completed by hand / EPP (however they can be adapted to be completed by machine). The project is also ideal to complete using the Quilt-as-you-Go technique - details will be supplied.
Your pattern each month will include:
- a graph pattern to be drawn out on 16" graph paper (available to purchase via our website - we strongly recommend using only Creative Grids graph paper as it is suitable weight for EPP templates)
- colour placement illustration
- photograph of block completed using the "Collection for a Cause: Etchings" collection.
Each block will be presented with a 'Simple' and a 'Fancy' version - the difference between the two versions is that 'Fancy' contains a block-within-a-block and provides more patchwork and quilting fun to be had each month - all will become clear when you see the first month's block, we promise. In addition, there is the option to add sashings and cornerstones to each block and again this fabric is available to purchase from our website if you decide to purchase the fabric collection used in the illustrations.
If this sounds like the ideal way to donate to a worthy cause AND enjoy a year of patchwork & quilting whilst creating an amazing quilt then please use the link below to make your donation - once you have made you donation please send us an email confirming the donation and we will add you to the monthly subscription list.
