Catherine Brierley, Janet Carpenter, Sarah Edwards, Bernice Hopper, Marion Plumb, Stephanie Redfern, Janet Rose ,Anne Watts, Kate White & Rita Weston. We are ten textile artists living in the Midlands, who work independently to produce original textile art.
We meet monthly to exchange ideas and new techniques, and to discuss and show work in progress.
The name Eclectica was chosen because the textile work we produce is very varied in the processes we use and in scale, as well as wide ranging in concept.
We felt this name reflects the fact that we are a group of individuals with our own style but always bound by a love of fabric and stitch, which we use to express our individual diverse responses to experiences and inspirations.
We are interested in design, new techniques and new ideas as well as the traditions in textiles from around the world.
Some of us have travelled widely and this has enabled us to tap into the richness of different cultures and the wonderful variety of the visual world.
All work is fabric and stitch based but techniques are varied and can include hand dyeing, rusting, hand and machine embroidery, various appliqué techniques, printing and stencil work, mixed media including paper, metal and paint, hand and machine piecing, felting, machine and hand quilting, surface embellishment, and the use of digital images.
