This kit is based on Lucy's most famous coverlet, the Patchwork of the Crosses, but new for 2024 we're going BIG!!!
For many years we have been providing hand stitchers with kits using the original 1" templates - but now we want to go BIG and double the size. The finished quilt will measure approx. 68" x 68" and is made up of just 9 blocks in total. The larger templates ensures that the blocks & quilt are quick to make and allows for some amazing fussy cutting.
Your kit includes a fat quarter bundle which we feel truly compliments the original design and allows for some wonderful fussy cutting opportunities, along with instructions for EPP, pre-cut papers and template plastic to create your own templates to help with fussy-cutting – this “precision cutting” of fabrics is one element that made Lucy’s work so special. She herself said:
“Interesting patterns can be made by cutting out particular details in the material and using them to make symmetrical figures of their own. This, of course, means very wasteful cutting whereas the original notion of patchwork was economy.”
Included in the kit:
enough fabric to make 9 blocks
3m of background fabric
Template plastic to make templates for fussy cutting feature fabrics
150 x 2” honeycombs (these are enough paper templates to start creating 3 blocks - you will then need to purchase additional templates or re-use pieces from the centres of blocks)
Graph paper (4 sheets of 16”)– suitable for creating paper pieces templates required to complete the quilt – 2” squares ( x 100) / 4” squares ( x 4) / 2”x 4” rectangles ( x 24)
In additional you will need:
Wadding approx 69” x 69”
3.6m standard width fabric, cut in half and re-join at the selvages or 1.8m of extra wide fabric.
This kit is available in several fabric collections:
